YouTube Monetization Checker Tool: Is Your Channel Ready for Revenue?

You have been making videos on YouTube for some time, and now you want to know if you can finally make money from all that sweat? I totally get it – I was in the same boat about two years ago, constantly checking my subscriber count and watch hours, trying to figure out if I qualified yet.

That’s actually why I decided to create this YouTube Monetization Checker Tool. It’s pretty straightforward, really – something I wished I had when I was starting.

What This Tool Actually Does

YouTube Monetization Checker is a tool that enables you to test if eligible for Google’s YouTube Partner Program. Once you already know at the month level of creating content, you should have 1000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch in your channel cumulatively for the last 12 months to get monetization on YouTube.

But wait – that’s actually not completely accurate anymore. YouTube updated its policy recently. Now you can also qualify with 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. This change shows how YouTube is embracing short-form content these days.

How to Use the YouTube Monetization Checker

Using the tool isn’t complicated at all. You need to:

  1. Enter your channel URL or ID into the tool
  2. Let it fetch your current stats (subscribers, watch hours, and Shorts views)
  3. The tool shows you exactly how close you are to qualifying

It’s important to note that this tool uses the YouTube API to pull your public stats – it doesn’t access any private data or require your login information. I’m pretty serious about privacy myself, so I made sure this was safe to use.

Why I Built This (And Why You Might Need It)

I remember refreshing YouTube Studio multiple times a day when I was close to hitting monetization thresholds. It was obsessive, looking back. YouTube doesn’t always make it super clear how close you are to meeting ALL the requirements at once.

The standard YouTube dashboard shows your numbers, but doesn’t really give you that “big picture” view of your monetization progress. I wanted something that would tell me straight up: “You’re 80% of the way there” or “You need 246 more subscribers and 512 more watch hours.”

Beyond Just Checking Eligibility

Once you know where you stand, the tool also provides some personalized suggestions. For instance, if you’re close on subscribers but far behind on watch hours, it might suggest focusing on longer content. Or if you’re doing great on traditional metrics but want to try the Shorts route, it’ll show you what kind of views you’d need.

What makes this different from just checking YouTube Studio is that it also helps you form a strategy, not just see numbers. At least that’s what I was going for when I built it.

Some Limitations To Be Aware Of

I should mention that the tool isn’t perfect. Since it uses the public API, there can sometimes be a slight delay in stat updates compared to what you see in your YouTube Studio. Usually it’s just a matter of hours, but so that you know.

Also, while the tool can estimate watch hours based on public data, the exact calculation YouTube uses internally might differ slightly. They have access to more precise metrics about exactly how long people watch each video, whereas public data is more generalized.

When You’re Ready to Apply

Once the tool shows you’ve met the requirements, congrats! The next step is actually applying to the YouTube Partner Program through YouTube Studio. You’ll need to:

  • Set up an AdSense account if you don’t have one
  • Review and accept the YPP terms
  • Set your monetization preferences
  • Just wait for YouTube to approve your channel (sometimes it can take over a month, but I’ve found it to be much quicker)

Final Thoughts

That getting monetized is an exciting milestone, for sure, but I swear the milestone is just the start of the roller-coaster. The habits and frequency you cultivate when trying to go over those first few thresholds are the same ones that will make you scale past them.

This tool certainly makes your monetization journey more of a straight shot instead of a dark alley. I need more ideas for changes or what else might come in handy, so if you have anything to share! I am still tweaking, here and there, when I have some time between my video projects.

Good luck with your channel — the YouTube grind is scarily real, but it can be a total game changer!

YouTube Monetization Checker FAQ

Can I monetize my channel yet?

Our checker looks at your subscriber count and watch hours to see if you hit YouTube’s requirements. You need 1,000+ subs and 4,000+ watch hours in the last 12 months. Been there waiting for those last few subscribers… It’s painful! But once you hit those numbers, boom! You’re ready to apply for the YouTube Partner Program.

Why does my channel say “not eligible” when I have enough subs?

Ugh, this one drove me crazy too! Usually, it’s because your watch hours aren’t quite there yet (YouTube counts these differently than you might think) or you have some copyright strikes hanging around. Also, YouTube sometimes takes a bit to update their system – I literally checked mine like 20 times a day when I was close lol.

How long does approval take after I apply?

Once you hit all the requirements and submit your application, expect to wait 1-4 weeks. Yeah, it isn’t very pleasant! I waited almost 3 weeks and was checking my email like a madman. YouTube reviews everything manually to make sure you’re following their rules and whatnot.

Will my old videos make money once I’m approved?

Nope! This was a bummer when I found out. Only videos published AFTER you’re approved for monetization will make money. All that old content? No damage from those (that’s what we called earnings back in my day, haha). So get ready to create fresh content once you’re approved!

What if my numbers drop below the threshold?

Don’t panic! YouTube won’t immediately kick you out if you dip below 1,000 subs or 4,000 watch hours after being approved. They give you a grace period to build back up. I had this happen once after cleaning up some old content – a scary moment, but everything was fine! Just keep creating, and you’ll be good.
